League One outfit Scunthorpe recorded a comfortable 3-1 victory at Halifax in the second round of the LDV Vans Trophy.
The Shaymen were dealt an early blow after six minutes when midfielder Justin Bowler sustained an injury and was replaced by Lewis Killeen.
And the Conference outfit suffered further misfortune three minutes later when Billy Sharp pounced to sweep home a clinical right-foot strike from 12 yards for his 16th goal of the season.
Halifax refused to buckle however, and came close through efforts from Craig Midgley and Wayne Jacobs.
But Andrew Keogh struck Scunthorpe's second shortly before the hour-mark when he swept home Wayne Corden's pass to make it 2-0.
Substitute Tommy Johnson made it 3-0 with 13 minutes remaining after collecting Keogh's pass and firing home from 12 yards to ensure Matthew Doughty's late strike was nothing more than a consolation for the hosts.
