Morecambe 1-3 Northwich
Paul Brayson grabbed a clinical hat-trick as Northwich caused an FA Cup surprise
by beating Morecambe 3-1 at Christie Park.
Morecambe made all the early running, with Vics goalkeeper Kris Rodgers soon
required to push a stinging drive from Jim Bentley over the crossbar.
But Brayson opened the scoring against the run of play after 19 minutes when
he rounded goalkeeper Ryan Robinson and slotted home despite the best efforts of
defender Chris Blackburn.
Brayson soon doubled the lead four minutes before the break as Morecambe
failed to clear a corner and the loose ball was fired home.
Despite Morecambe substitute Michael Stringfellow causing problems, Brayson
netted again in the 67th minute with a curling a shot from the edge of the
penalty area.
Morecambe were finally rewarded six minutes from time as Danny Carlton guided
Michael Twiss's lay off home from close range, but Northwich were already home
and dry.
