Leigh RMI 2-1 Canvey Island
The long wait for Leigh fans is finally over after the Railwaymen registered their first home win in over seven months with a battling 2-1 victory over Canvey Island.
The last time RMI triumphed on home turf was back in September when they edged out fellow strugglers Forest Green 2-0.
But thanks to goals from Lee Mulvaney and Ben Jones they brought that unwanted run to an end as they dug deep to hang on to the points.
Striker Mulvaney put them ahead after just nine minutes when he found the bottom corner with a flashing drive before Dave Ridler gifted Canvey a way back into the game six minutes later when his foul on Jon Keeling allowed Junior McDougald to slam home from the penalty spot.
Leigh, though, battled hard throughout and it was no more than they deserved when Jones latched onto Craig Smith's header to force the ball over the line.
Keeper Jon Worsnop had to be alert after the break - twice denying Neil Gregory with diving saves - but in the end the hosts held out.
