UTRECHT, September 16 (UEFA Cup) - FC Utrecht's UEFA Cup campaign got off to a flying start with a comfortable home win over Swedish outfit Djurgarden.
Johannes van der Haar's third minute goal set Utrecht on their way and a Stephane Tanghe brace either side of Dave van den Bergh's effort secured an easy win for the Eredivisie outfit.
Coach Foeke Booy had warned his side beforehand that Djurgarden should not be underestimated as they are a physically strong and well organised outfit.
But his side seemed to have little trouble in breaking down the resistance of Bosse Andersson's men.
Van der Haar gave Utrecht the ideal opening by netting the first goal with just three minutes on the clock and Tanghe doubled their advantage after 27 minutes.
Utrecht never looked in danger of relinquishing their advantage and van den Bergh stretched the lead with 15 minutes remaining.
Van den Bergh's effort and Tanghe's second a minute from time ensured the Dutch team will take a four-goal advantage into the second leg in Sweden in a fortnight's time.
And the result surely provides the perfect confidence boost for Utrecht ahead of Sunday's trip to Rotterdam to play Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord.
