GRONINGEN, April 25 (Eredivisie) - Zwolle remain in the relegation play-off zone after they came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at Groningen.
The home side led through first-half goals from Sander van Gessel and Paul Matthijs, but Albert van der Haar and a late strike from Mauro Almeida ensured it ended all square.
Matthijs announced his intentions early on and sent a fierce drive just over the crossbar after 10 minutes.
Groningen dictated the pace of the game during the opening exchanges and took a deserved lead after 18 minutes.
Martin Drent found himself with the space and time to pick out Van Gessel with an inviting cross and he made no mistake with his header.
Van Gessel could have had a second two minutes later but he blasted wide after being played in by Matthijs.
Drent was again the provider for the hosts' second goal on the stroke of half-time when he headed the ball into the path of Matthijs who scored from the edge of the area.
Groningen continued in the same manner in the second half but they could not turn their possession into goals and were made to pay when Van der Haar's 70th-minute free-kick took everyone by surprise and set up a frantic finish.
And with five minutes left Almeida levelled things from close range after Groningen failed to clear their lines.
