VfL Wolfsburg v Werder Bremen: Preview

Wolfsburg will be looking to win two games in a row for the first time since April when they host Werder Bremen on Saturday evening.

A first away win of the season - a 2-1 at Augsburg - has given them the chance to complete the victorious double on home soil this Saturday, and their director of sport Klaus Allofs must do that since they have a train to catch.

``At the moment, it's all very tight,'' he said. ``A win would increase the pressure on the sides who are behind the top three, fighting for places four to nine.

``We want to jump on this train so that we can start looking upwards again.''

Allofs comes up against his former club for only the second time since his 13-year allegiance came to an end.

``Games against Bremen are always going to be special for me,'' Allofs said at a press conference. ``But it's becoming increasingly normal.''

Bas Dost has returned to training, but he is not yet ready for a return to the squad, although coach Dieter Hecking does expect to be able to count on him ``at some stage during the first half of the season.''

Allofs is not the only person to have left Bremen for Wolfsburg. Defender Naldo treaded the same path two summers ago, and after a season of settling in, he now seems to be back to his best.

``I know that Naldo's a super player,'' said Bremen forward Aaron Hunt to the Kreiszeitung Syke. ``I just hope he's not in such good form on Saturday.

``It's not going to be easy for us. Wolfsburg have a super team, but at times it doesn't look like everything is working for them and so that is a chance for us to take something.

``I'd say we're on a par with them.''

With 12 points each after nine games of the season, the league table currently supports that thesis.
