Guingamp v Lorient: Preview

Captain Lionel Mathis is hoping Guingamp can get their Ligue 1 campaign up and running when they face Lorient in the Brittany derby this weekend.

EAG have lost both their matches so far, going down to defeats against Marseille and St Etienne on their return to the top flight.

But Mathis believes he saw enough in those performances to be encouraged and insists the team are determined to get off the mark against their near neighbours.

``We want to open our account in Ligue 1,'' he told www.eaguingamp.com.

``This is a home game and we will play just for the three points and the victory.

``In addition, it is a Breton derby against an opponent who is also developing a beautiful game has been appearing in the top half of Ligue 1 for a few seasons.

``Lorient has a quality squad.''

He added: ``Apart from the first 15 minutes against Marseille, our performances were interesting.

``It did not show in the results but it is a good foundation.

``We met St Etienne and Marseille who were two teams in the top five last year.

``We remain confident and calm but we still quickly have to open our account against Lorient on Saturday.''

Lorient began their season with a loss to Lille but bounced back last week to beat Nantes in their home opener.

They travel to the Stade du Roudourou on Saturday and Yann Jouffre, who spent five years at Guingamp before moving to Lorient in 2008, is expecting a hostile reception.

``I do not think we start as favourites,'' he told www.fclweb.fr.

``In this type of game we usually encounter some problems. This is a team that will play on aggression. We are superior to them technically but they need points.

``The difference between them and us is that we have more experience in Ligue 1.

``We must manage it better. I expect a tough game.''
