Scunthorpe skipper Michael Collins is expected to miss Saturday's home clash with Newport due to a knee injury.
Collins was forced out of last week's defeat to AFC Wimbledon and although scans have revealed the injury is not as bad as first feared, the midfielder is unlikely to be risked, so Sean McAllister could return to the starting line-up in his absence.
On-loan Huddersfield striker Jimmy Spencer and summer signing Etienne Esajas (hamstring) made their first appearances off the substitutes bench last week and are in contention to start.
Matt Godden is hoping to return to the squad following a knee injury and fellow forwards Jamie Wootton and Jordan Clark, on loan from Barnsley, could also be recalled.
Newport could be without Andy Sandell for the trip as their injury list continues to grow.
The wing-back, who captained the Exiles in their midweek loss to West Brom, is touch and go for the clash as he aggravated a foot injury against the Baggies.
Centre-back Ismail Yakubu has been missing with a calf strain and may not be risked while Max Porter is sidelined with a long-standing groin injury.
While Byron Anthony (ankle) and Aaron O'Connor (groin) will be missing Tony James (hamstring) is back in contention for the trip to Glanford Park.
