Chievo Verona v Udinese: Preview

Two of Serie A's most unpredictable sides go head to head tomorrow, with Chievo striker Cyril Thereau hoping that Udinese blink first.

The recruitment of Eugenio Corini as Domenico Di Carlo's replacement sparked a mini-revival for the struggling Flying Donkeys, but AC Milan soon put the Veneto outfit back in their place courtesy of a thumping 5-1 victory last weekend.

Meanwhile, Udinese continue to lurch between bore draws, dismal defeats and rousing comeback victories as coach Francesco Guidolin grapples with the dual demands of a domestic campaign and the Europa League.

With just two goals to his name so far, French forward Thereau is surprisingly among Chievo's most productive players, but he knows he can do a lot more to boost the Gialloblu up the table.

He told ChievoVerona.tv: ``It's another home game but they have the same need for points as us, because they've not had a great start to the season either.

``It's really important that we don't make any mistakes in this game.

``We have to play good football and try to keep doing what we've been doing in recent home games, where we have been picking up points.

``It doesn't matter who scores but it's always nice to help the team out and get victories.

``I hope to get more goals so I can celebrate with the fans but we all know that it's not easy and we need everyone behind us.

``I hope I'll be the first one out there ready for the game.''

With defenders Boukary Drame and Nicolas Frey on the sidelines, Corini should call Gennaro Sardo and Bojan Jokic into his backline.

Alberto Paloschi is a long-term absentee from Corini's attacking trident, so Thereau will be supported by Sergio Pellissier and Siqueira Luciano tomorrow afternoon.

Another obstacle to the young Chievo coach is his former mentor.

Guidolin looked after Corini in his twilight days as a midfielder at Palermo and the two coaches now share a similar personnel crisis.

An under-strength Zebrette team slumped to defeat at Young Boys on Thursday night, but Guidolin is unable to reinstate injured defenders Giovanni Pasquale and Mehdi Benatia.

Filippo Berra and Max Reinthaller have been called up from the youth ranks but are unlikely to start in Udinese's cautious 3-5-1-1 formation.
