Mel eyeing winning end

Real Betis boss Pepe Mel has spoken of his delight at the progress his side have made in 2012 and is hoping they can cap off a fine year with one more victory against struggling Mallorca this weekend.

Los Verdiblancos will end the year in the top four so long as they better Malaga's result at home to Real Madrid later, but Mel does not want a repeat of the surprise 2-1 defeat they suffered at home to Granada a few weeks ago.

He told the club's website: ``If the world had ended, we would be in Europe. The year 2012 has been an exemplar one for the club on and off the field. We have had a good year and we look forward to the next with optimism and calm. This is the most valuable word in football and Betis has had it for a while now.

``The Granada game gave me more fear. I was right in my prediction on it and it hurt me to be so. But now we have been warned, we are going to take a step forward. I have very good sensations because the group transmit them to me.''

Mel has no major injury concerns although Jorge Molina may be recalled to the starting line-up after coming on to score the winner against Celta Vigo on Monday night.

While everything has gone well for Betis so far this season, Mallorca finally slipped into the relegation zone last weekend after a terrible run that has seen them take just two points from the last 33 on offer.

However, midfielder Tomas Pina believes it could just take one game to turn their entire campaign around.

He told the club's website: ``In football when things are going badly you look to the horizon and you see everything as a barrier to moving upwards. We are going to Betis and then Atletico Madrid come and I see it as difficult, but everything can change is you win a game.

``I am sure that if we can beat Betis, then Atleti, who Mallorca have always done well against, will come here and everything will look a lot better. It is a question of changing the dynamic, of winning a game and then seeing things with more positivity.''

Pedro Geromel is suspended so Anderson Conceicao will partner Jose Nunes at the back, whilst there could also be a recall for Ximo Navarro at right-back.
