AS Nancy Lorraine v Stade Rennes: Preview

Rennes head coach Frederic Antonetti is all too aware that appearances can be deceiving as he prepares his side to visit lowly Nancy tomorrow night.

The north-eastern outfit are stranded at the bottom of Ligue 1 thanks to a run of 10 games without victory - including eight defeats - that has left Jean Fernandez's men five points from safety.

Antonetti oversaw Rennes' own sluggish start to the season, and he knows that a few good results can quickly propel a side up the league table.

He told ``I watched their losses against PSG (1-0) and Nice (2-1) and the scores could easily have gone in their favour.

``I think there are lot of worse teams than Nancy. I'm pretty sure they'll stay up.''

Mevlut Erdinc has scored in four of Rennes' last six league outings but Antonetti is sure there is even more to come from the Turkish striker.

``He's the complete striker, he's good with his head, his right foot and his left foot,'' he added.

``He knows how to be at the centre of moves but he just needs to work a bit harder on his build-up play.

``He can give us an edge in games.''

The Breton side sit ninth after sealing four wins from their last five games, as well as progressing to the quarter-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue at the expense of Arles-Avignon last week.

Antonetti added: ``Our last two games were interesting, but we did not even make the most of having so many chances on goal.

``We have to keep moving forward with the same enthusiasm while trying to be a bit more efficient.''

At his own pre-match press conference, Nancy boss Fernandez said: ``We just need things to click.

``There have been matches this year that we would never have lost last year.

``There is always some crucial mistake during the match. It's not a problem of organisation.

``Sometimes you enter a rut where you don't enjoy any success but all it takes to get out of it is winning one match.''
