Paris Saint-Germain v Bastia: Preview

David Beckham's anticipated return to European football will be delayed by at least another couple of days with the former England skipper not yet ready for Paris St Germain's home clash with Bastia tomorrow night.

Beckham - who is training in London - is not due to join up with his new club until just before next week's first leg of their Champions League knockout tie in Valencia.

The 37-year-old grabbed the headlines with his deadline-day move to the French capital - after ending his five years at Los Angeles Galaxy - to add further star-name weight to their push for the French title.

PSG could move six points clear at the top tomorrow night when they host a Bastia outfit that has never won at the Parc des Princes.

The leaders claimed a thumping 4-0 win over the Corsicans, 13th in the table, earlier in the campaign but defender Maxwell has warned against complacency after PSG's rivals have slipped up against lower-ranked opponents recently.

``By experience, I know very well that there's no such thing as an easy match of football,'' the Brazilian told the club's official website.

``We need to be totally focused on Friday because Bastia will be looking to cause a big upset.

``It won't be easy, we need to be motivated, focused and find the right moments to make it count in the game. But first and foremost, we need the points and that is the bottom line.''

As well as Beckham's absence PSG will be without Thiago Silva who remains suspended.

Bastia's hopes of a breakthrough success in the capital have been hampered by red tape that will prevent new signing Samuel Inkoom making his debut.

Bastia confirmed today that the international clearance from his former club, Ukrainian side Dnipro, had yet to be lodged with the French Football Federation to rule him out.

Coach Frederic Hantz is also without midfielder Yannick Cahuzac but otherwise has a full-strength squad.
