Lille v Stade Rennes: Preview

Lille coach Rudi Garcia has challenged his players not to give up in their chase for a European place as they prepare to face Rennes tomorrow night at the Grand Stade Metropole.

Lille's superb 3-1 win at title-chasing Lyon last Sunday proved what they are capable of despite still languishing in 10th place in the Ligue 1 table, six points off the top four.

Garcia said: ``There is a long way to go before the end of the season and we have got to focus on Rennes because it is a big game for us.

``There is no magic formula but we know the ingredients. It takes determination, technical quality and efficiency in important areas to get where we want to be.''

Garcia has injury concerns with striker Ryan Mendes ruled out for a number of months due an ankle injury suffered on African Nations Cup duty, while captain Rio Mavuba is still out.

Lille's win at Lyon came as something of a surprise given their relatively indifferent recent form up to that point, with defeat at Paris St Germain followed by a low-key home draw with Troyes.

Rennes make the trip in buoyant mood with last week's 2-0 win over Toulouse extending their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to four games and keeping them fifth in the table.

Coach Frederic Antonetti will see his options increased for the tie with Romain Danze returning from injury and Mali striker Cheikh Diarra also available after returning from South Africa.
