Sochaux v Paris Saint-Germain : Preview

David Beckham will not make his Paris St Germain debut in tomorrow night's Ligue 1 game against Sochaux, manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed.

The 37-year-old former England captain met his new team-mates on Tuesday ahead of their Champions League last-16 tie at Valencia, before taking part in his first training session in the French capital on Wednesday.

There had been speculation Beckham could make his first appearance in a PSG shirt tomorrow, but Ancelotti said at his pre-match press conference today that he was not ready and would likely make his bow in next weekend's blockbuster clash with Marseille at the Parc des Princes.

Asked whether the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid man would be in the group to face Sochaux, Ancelotti said on www.psg.fr: ``No. David still needs work. He needs a week of extra work to be ready next week against Marseille.

``He will bring us his quality, experience and professionalism. This is what is expected of him.''

Ancelotti sought to play down the effect of Beckham's arrival on the league leaders as they prepared for an important game against relegation-threatened Sochaux.

``It is normal that David Beckham monopolises the attention of the media, but the talk at the training centre is different,'' the Italian said.

``We are focused on preparing for the next match against Sochaux. It will be a complicated match.

``We want to continue to string good performances together in the league and in all competitions.''

He added: ``Everybody knows this is a very important game. We are six points ahead and we want to keep this margin.

``We are focused on tomorrow's game. Sochaux are a good team that plays good, dynamic football. I do not think they will stick to defence - they will play to win.''

As well as being without his high-profile deadline-day signing, Ancelotti will also be missing Lucas Moura (ankle), Jeremy Menez (groin), Thiago Motta (hamstring) and Thiago Silva (ankle) at the Stade Auguste Bonal.

Sochaux defender Cedric Kante resumed training yesterday and should be available tomorrow after twisting his knee during the goalless draw at Troyes seven days ago.

Last Saturday's stalemate, coupled with Reims' 2-1 win at Nancy, saw the Montbeliard club slip back into the relegation zone.

Sochaux midfielder Ryad Boudebouz urged his team-mates not to be overawed, though, by the calibre of their visitors.

``We must play without fear, and we will have a chance to win,'' he said.

``I think the way PSG play has been inspired by Barcelona. Everyone dreams of playing that way.

``As soon as they lose the ball, they are at the pressing. This is what makes the big teams so strong.

``PSG possess individuals who are able to score at any moment of the game.''

Sochaux coach Eric Hely has included Giovanni Sio in his 19-man squad for the first time, the striker having completed a two-match suspension following his loan move from Wolfsburg.

Defender David Sauget also returns after missing the Troyes game through illness, while midfielder Kalilou Traore has returned from African Nations Cup duty with Mali.
