Nice v Marseille: Preview

Nice defender Renato Civelli is not interested in securing bragging rights over Marseille when the two sides meet in tomorrow's derby clash at the Municipal du Ray.

Nice are three points adrift of third-placed Marseille with nine games remaining, with places in next season's European competition still very much up for grabs.

However, while fans will be focused on getting the upper hand against their nearest rivals, Civelli is playing that down as all he wants is to claim a potentially vital three points.

``If we win we can eventually end up third. It would be great, but it is not the goal,'' Civelli told ogcnice.com.

``The real goal is the three points in this match and during each of the eight following games.

``Derbies against Marseille are still important and the fans have been waiting for this for a while, but mostly I see that every game is worth three points, regardless of the opponent.

``But it remains difficult to get that against Marseille, a team with players of the highest level, even internationals.''

Meanwhile, Marseille midfielder Alaixys Romao is ready for what he expects to be a tough derby match following his return from international duty with Togo.

``It will be a difficult game for us. Third place travelling to fifth is a big match, no?'' Romao told om.net.

``There is plenty at stake. Nice want to overtake us in the standings and we want to cement our place in the top three. It should be a very open and entertaining match. At least I hope it will be.

``Nice are a very complete side that have had a good and very promising season. Their players will be wanting to prove themselves against us and in front of their passionate fans.

``They have many dangerous players and can score from anywhere. We will have to be very careful, especially from set pieces where they often make the difference. They also like to get the ball wide. We will have to lift our game and play to our best.''
