Valenciennes v Stade Rennes: Preview

A pair of unfamiliar line-ups could be on show tomorrow as mid-table pair Valenciennes and Rennes contest an end-of-season dead rubber.

With neither relegation nor European qualification on the agenda for either team, little is riding on the encounter.

And that will be a relief to Rennes in particular, with 13 players ruled out by injury and suspension.

Vincent Pajot and Chris Mavinga are banned to add to a lengthy injury list which includes six of Mavinga's fellow defenders in Herita Ilunga, Jonathan Mensah, Kevin Theophile-Catherine, Onyekachi Apam, Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik and Romain Danze.

Forwards Mevlut Erding, Victor Hugo Montano and Abdoulaye Sane, midfielder Romain Alessandrini and back-up keeper Cheikh Ndiaye also miss out.

And coach Frederic Antonetti told the club's website: ``I will try to put out the most competitive team possible, despite the injuries and suspensions.

``John Boye, for example, is playing through extreme pain due to an abdominal injury. He needs to rest for two or three weeks but it is not possible. He is playing all the matches but hardly training.

``There will be a lot of players from the CFA2 team in the game against Valenciennes. We do not have a choice with 13 players absent.

``The aim is to show ourselves in a good light. The first half against Nice was good but we did not take our chances. Against Valenciennes we have to.''

Twelfth-placed Valenciennes have the chance to bridge the three-point gap behind their 11th-placed visitors, but are some way from full strength themselves.

Gregory Pujol is on his way back from a hamstring injury and coach Daniel Sanchez told the club's website: ``He is training normally with the squad.

``We will see if he is ready for Saturday, we have to be prudent because there are two more matches after this one against Rennes.''

Pape Abdou Camara, Anthony Le Tallec, Francis Massampu, Loris Nery and Mody Traore will all miss out.
