The damage was done for City for failing to beat Ajax home or away - and now they must win in Dortmund and hope Ajax do not beat Real to make it into the Europa League.

Cheers from the City fans as Zabaleta wins a free-kick for a foul by Arbeloa. A replay shows Zabaleta actually went in with his studs on the Real defender's thigh and could easily have been red carded.

More terrible defending as Nastasic fails to deal with a ball played in from the right - it almost drops for Benzema but Hart collects.

There is the danger the second half here could be a non event - it may depend is Mancini decides there's no point wasting energy ahead of their game with Chelsea.

City have 3v3 and Ronaldo looks able to simply pick a pass - but it's Aguero who runs right back into his own half to make the tackle from behind and win the ball.

Sublime skill again by Ronaldo, this time leaving Kompany chasing shadows on the wing and crossing to the near post for Khedira again who this time can only head into the side netting.

That Benzema goal has left City all at sea. It's like a library at Eastlands.

Ronaldo does superbly on the left, pulling a low cross back for Khedira in the centre of the box. He's got no left foot so shoots with his right but it's way wide.

What a simple goal. A superb cross from the right by Di Maria, Maicon fell asleep and left Benzema to trundle up to the ball and tap home from four yards out. Shocking defending.

Remember Man City have to win here tonight, any other result ends their Champions League experience before Christmas again.

It will be interesting to see just how this three-man City defence copes with the pace and trickery of the Real Madrid attack.
