That will do it for tonight, and thoughts now turn to tomorrow night and the climax of Group A. To whet your appetite why not have a read of our preview for Poland v Czech Republic and Greece v Russia. Bye for now.

  •

Sweden's huge backing must come to terms with the fact that they are out - they certainly didn't deserve that but their side was limited with only one real star and he couldn't do anything to prevent a defeat.

  •

England might have won tonight but none of the tournament favourites will be quaking in their boots. They deserve top marks for resilience and determination but in terms of quality, there wasn't too much on show. It was more Everton than Man City.

  • 95'

It wasn't pretty but it made for a heck of a game. England looked down and out at 2-1 down but Theo Walcott made a big difference when he came on, scoring and setting up Welbeck. England probably just about shaded it but the final goal deserved to win any game.

  • 95'

FULL TIME - England cling on and Sweden are out!

  • 94'

Into the final minute and Sweden with only two people back. Young gives the ball away and luckily for him Jonas Olsson can't direct a header on target.

  • 93'

A break for England led by Walcott, he clips the ball over for Gerrard who makes good contact with his volley but Isaksson spread himself well to make the save.

  • 92'

Gerrard just punts the free kick ten yards over the bar. Four minutes added we are finally informed.

  • 91'

Gerrard does well to claim a free kick when it seemed like Sweden should get one. Svensson booked for his protest.

  • 90'

Welbeck is the last England change as Oxlade-Chamberlain replaces him. Walcott must be OK then.

  • 89'

It's the kitchen sink or nothing for Sweden now - they are going out as it stands.

  • 88'

Hart comes again and punches clear. Only Walcott advanced.

  • 87'

Carroll nods clear from a good, deep free kick floated in by Kallstrom. Now Sweden win a corner.

  • 86'

It's all getting very panicky now. Young relinquishes possession and Ibrahimovic nearly profits. England retreating deeper, Sweden pushing forward.

  • 85'

Cole goes down under Svensson's challenge and buys England some time with a free kick.

  • 84'

Walcott is back and apparently moving a little easier. The Ox has been stood down for the moment. Sweden pushing men forward. They need something and fast.

  • 83'

Walcott hobbles off for treatment but Oxlade-Chamberlain is ready to come on. Looks like a calf strain for Walcott.

  • 82'

Good clearing header from Carroll and England are off on the break. Walcott's pass to Gerrard is poor and behind him but he can turn it on to Welbeck but his touch takes him wide, then Parker hoofs over and Walcott goes down injured.

  • 81'

    Elm makes way for Wilhelmsson.

  • 80'

Elmander goes off and Markus Rosenberg is on.

  • 79'

Danny Welbeck I apologise unreservedly - that was a finish of the highest order. Such a difficult skill and he has mastered it. Walcott deserves praise too for his run and cross.

  • 78'

GOAL Welbeck turns it home! Walcott drives into the box and crosses and Welbeck flicks behind him and into the far post beyond Isaksson. If he meant that, it was top quality.

  • 77'

Hart has clearly decided to come for pretty much everything seeing as how England can't defend free kicks or corner in this game. Another successful punch.

  • 76'

Terrible from England as they offer up possession, Martin Olsson goes forward, Elmander finds Ibrahimovic and his thunderous drive is parried behind by Hart.

  • 75'

Fantastic work from Martin Olsson who beats both Johnson and Walcott before squaring to Kallstrom but he can't turn it on goal from the angle.

  • 74'

Young takes it but the ball started off far too high and was never going to dip enough to trouble Isaksson.

  • 73'

Kallstrom has a nip at Young's ankle after the winger turned and the ref hands England a free kick 30 yards out.

  • 72'

Jonas Olsson is booked for blocking Hart's kick after he had claimed the corner.

  • 71'

A Lescott pass to Hart isn;t a good one, the ball goes a foot out of play but it takes a good 20 seconds for Sweden's corner to be awarded. What the official behind the goal was doing I do not know.

  • 70'

Carroll tries a curler with his right foot and Isaksson is beaten but it didn't have enough shape on it to turn back on goal.

  • 69'

Ibrahimovic has immense strength - he just flicked Walcott off the ball then like he was a stick insect.

  • 68'

A passage of calm after that frantic 15 minutes or so. Who can keep their composure?

  • 67'

Svensson barges Parker to the floor with an arm and a shoulder. No card shown.

  • 66'

We are set up for a humdinger of a last 25 minutes as Gerrard is bundled over on the edge of the box by Mellberg but the ref waves play on. Surely that was a foul.

  • 65'

Sweden are being forced into a change here as the injured Granqvist limps off and Mikael Lustig replaces him.

  • 64'

GOAL Walcott levels it up! The corner is cleared to him and his shot takes a deflection to fly past Isaksson. Or maybe not, maybe it was just swerve off the Tango.

  • 63'

And as England build wide Isaksson has made a stupendous save from Terry as he met Johnson's cross from five yards out. Corner.

  • 63'

Mellberg is now booked for a foul on Gerrard.

  • 62'

From the corner Sweden break and Elmander feeds Ibrahimovic who powers into the area and only another last ditcher from Johnson prevents him scoring. The game is on a knife edge.

  • 61'

Walcott replaces Milner, who has been disappointing.

  • 60'

Great finish from the veteran but he was completely unmarked on the six yard box from a free kick. Unforgivable defending from England. Young breaks and crosses but Granqvist clears behind for a corner.

  • 59'

GOAL Mellberg again! Larsson's ball was superb and the big beareded centre back gets a free header which he plants into the corner of the net.

  • 58'

Deserved yellow for Milner as he leaves Olsson untracked then clips him as the ball is played beyond the full back.

  • 56'

Sweden have grown in confidence from the goal and England look rattled.

  • 55'

Johnson has acres of space down the right as Milner takes his man inside but the cross doesn't meet its target then Johnson is required at the other end to hook the ball away from Elm inside the area.

  • 54'

Carroll chases down a loose ball that Isaksson was trying to shepherd out of play and the keeper is forced to knock it out for a throw.

  • 53'

Super block from Kallstrom on the edge of the box as Gerrard unleashes one of his piledrivers.

  • 52'

Grest noise from Sweden's fans who outnumber England's about four to one.

  • 51'

Even after that he had a chance to clear it off the line but couldn't wrap his foot round the ball. Nightmare start to the half for England, great time to score for Sweden.

  • 50'

Calamitous from England really. Johnson played Mellberg onside, then as Hart saved the defender's shot it hit Johnson in the chest and he took it over the line.

  • 49'

GOAL Sweden are level! Ibrahimovic hits the wall, but his follow up breaks for Mellberg and he prods it past Hart and Johnson can't keep it out.

  • 48'

Terry has to clear again from a very good Granqvist cross before Carroll hacks down Kallstrom. He's lucky not to get a yellow and Sweden have a chance from the free kick.

  • 47'

Terry heads away Olsson's cross as the left back looked for Elmander.

  • 46'

No changes to either side as we begin again...

  •

Isaksson couldn't prevent Carroll's header finding the net

  •

No doubt that Sweden look threatening when Ibrahimovic gets on the ball. He looks well suited to the number 10 role. England must deny him as much space as possible, while Sweden must get him on the ball whenever they can. England must also beware not to drop too deep to protect their lead like they did against France.

  •

Greetings. I was kindly granted the first half off after a solid 1hr 45 mins on the chat when the Ukraine France game was suspended for nearly an hour but I'm refreshed for the second half. The game is neatly poised with England looking most likely, but Sweden have to get something from this game or they are out.

  •

Chris Murphy will be in the chair for the second half, join him to see if Sweden can get back into this.

  •

It's been far from a classic, but England have that priceless one goal lead. Sweden look suspect at the back but England are wary of trying to exploit that and being caught on the break.

  • 45'

    And that's half-time in Kiev.

  • 45'

    One minute to be added.

  • 45'

The corner is played deep, Carroll gets his head to it back across goal but there's no direction and Sweden clear.

  • 45'

Young wins a corner for England.

  • 45'

Andy Carroll heads England into the lead.

  • 44'

Welbeck gets lucky on the turn and bursts forward, but there's absolutely no one in support and a defender gets a foot in just as he's about to pull the trigger.

  • 43'

The free-kick comes to nothing before the ball is fed to Milner on the right, but he frustratingly floats a cross over the top of everyone and out for a goal-kick.

  • 42'

Mellberg sends Carroll to the deck and it's a free-kick to England. Chance to deliver.

  • 41'

Elmander thinks he's through on goal but Hart is wise to the danger and comes rushing out to claim at the striker's feet.

  • 41'

England do not want to go throwing away this lead before the break.

  • 40'

Kallstrom tries to backheel the ball into the path of Ibrahimovic, but it was a blind pass and England come away with the ball.

  • 39'

Carroll accidentally smashes the ball into referee Damir Skomina - he instantly apologies and the ref sees the funny side.

  • 38'

Close - Kallstrom fires one from around 20 yards and it goes a couple of yards over the bar.

  • 37'

Cole drifts a ball into the box but it's too high for Welbeck and Sweden can clear.

  • 36'

Coel plays Young in - and he's through into the box. His first touch is poor and he then drags a shot a yard wide with no pace. He really should have done better there, either on goal or in finding a team-mate.

  • 35'

Opta stat: Of England's last 20 goals, 16 have been scored before half-time.

  • 34'

Cole puts the ball out of play with Zlatan down injured after Terry robbed him of the ball. He's fine.

  • 33'

Ibrahimovic has options left and right but goes for the greedy option and shoots, his effort is deflected into the hands of Hart.

  • 32'

Free-kick given against Svensson, bringing Young to the ground on the half-way line.

  • 31'

John Terry tries to win the ball by hacking into Elm, and somehow the free-kick goes to England.

  •

Greetings. I was kindly granted the first half off after a solid 1hr 45 mins on the chat when the Ukraine France game was suspended for nearly an hour but I'm refreshed for the second half. The game is neatly poised with England looking most likely, but Sweden have to get something from this game or they are out.

  • 30'

It sounds like the England band got in this time.

  • 29'

England have dropped very deep since scoring.

  • 28'

Milner almost finds Johnson in the box with a reverse pass but a defender manages to intercept it.

  • 27'

Does this mean it will be Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll against Ukraine?

  • 26'

Martin Olsson shoots from 25 yards and Milner makes the block.

  • 26'

So, a rare piece of quality in this game - both in the pass and the execution of the goal. But can England push on from here?

  • 25'

That is an absolutely immense header - made in Liverpool!

  • 24'

GOAL Andy Carroll! Ball over the top from deep by Steven Gerrard and a brilliant header from Carroll finds the bottom left-hand corner.

  • 23'

Ashley Cole tries an audacious long-range effort, and it goes out for a throw.

  • 22'

Young crosses low into the box, but it's easily cut out at the near post.

  • 21'

The speed England are moving the ball around David Beckham would probably be able to keep up with the pace of the game.

  • 20'

Snap shot from Ibrahimovic but it's easy for Hart down low to his right.

  • 19'

The "turnover" of possession stats from this game will probably make interesting reading.

  • 18'

Gerrard plays a ball out wide to Milner, who misjudges the flight and it goes out for a throw.

  • 17'

Brilliant ball from Larsson to Ibrahimovic through the centre - Johnson does well to intercept it and Hart smashes clear.

  • 16'

Fine ball by Milner on the right, Welbeck gets his head to it at the near post but glances it well wide. That was a chance for the Man United man.

  • 15'

Kallstrom tries a volley from the edge of the area but slices it up in the air.

  • 14'

    One word: scrappy.

  • 13'

Andy Carroll also controls a long ball over the top but slips to the ground.

  • 12'

Speculative shot from distance by Larsson, into the stomach and gloves of Hart.

  • 11'

Carroll is flung to the ground on the spin, and it's a free-kick against Mellberg.

  • 10'

Sweden need to settle here, and enjoy some possession of their own at last.

  • 9'

    England in control.

  • 8'

Brilliant chest back from Welbeck and Parker's fierce drive is clawed away by Isaksson. Superb hit, and so close for the Spurs midfielder.

  • 7'

England enjoy a lot of possession on the edge of the box but are forced backwards by their own lack of ambition.

  • 6'

It's hardly a frantic start to this match, which is probably what we expected.

  • 5'

Poor through ball from Parker when Cole was well forward on the edge of the box, straight to Isaksson.

  • 4'

Sweden play a short throw, but it's always a laboured move and Larsson knocks it straight out of play.

  • 3'

Another foul by Andy Carroll, this time on Svensson.

  • 2'

Andy Carroll is penalised for jumping into Granqvist.

  • 1'

    Sweden kick off the game.

  •

Here comes that blasted countdown to kick-off.......

  •

    Gerrard and Zlatan shake hands.

  •

Sweden fans jeer the English anthem, before belting out their own.

  •

Sweden fans are outnumbering England supporters by around 20,000 to 5,000. It's been a strange tournament for England with the fans staying at home.

  •

The players are out and it's time for the anthems.

  •

That thunderstorm means I'm on first half commentary for Sweden v England. AKA Dale Johnson, and I'm on Twitter: @dalejohnsonESPN

  •

But, of course, England have never beaten Sweden in a competitive game - though they did end something of a hoodoo by beating them 1-0 at Wembley in a friendly last November.

  •

With France beating Ukraine, England really do have to beat Sweden tonight to given themselves a better chance of making the quarter-finals.

  •

An England fan sits in front of the stadium in Kiev.

  •

Jonas Olsson also returns to central defence as Andreas Granqvist switches to right-back in place of Michael Lustig, who has a hip problem.

  •

Anders Svensson has been recalled to partner Kim Kallstrom in the centre of midfield, with Rasmus Elm shifting out to the left wing as Ola Toivonen drops to the bench.

  •

Three changes for Sweden, as announced earlier today. First, Johan Elmander returns to the Sweden side for his first start since suffering a metatarsal injury while on club duty with Galatasaray.

  •

England bring in Andy Carroll at the expense of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, meaning England will go to a more conventional 4-4-2.

  •

And the Sweden team is in, which was announced earlier of course: Isaksson, Granqvist, Mellberg, Olsson, Olsson, Svensson, Kallstrom, Larsson Ibrahimovic, Elm, Elmander

  •

The teams are in from Kiev. This is how England line-up, just as expected: Hart; Johnson, Terry Lescott, Cole; Milner, Gerrard, Parker, Young; Carroll, Welbeck.
