A slightly dull end to what was a generally exciting affair in Pretoria. Chile never recovered from losing Estrada to a harsh red card and, in the end, were happy to take the one-goal defeat that saw them through.

Chile also go through, but they face Brazil in the second round. Spain will play Portugal.

Chile regain possession but give the ball away straight away. Frustrating stuff from Chile, who just need to keep the ball.

Chile are receding further and further into their own half as the game goes on. A completely different side to the one that outplayed Spain in the first half.

Great tackle by Ponce! Xavi plays Villa in with a delightful chip but, just as Villa is about to unleash a shot at goal, Ponce wins the ball brilliantly (and cleanly).

Fabregas chips a lovely ball into the path of Villa who comically falls over his own feet as he attempts to backheel it into the danger area. That was rather funny.

Vidal and Ramos clash yet again. Ramos gets the free kick.

Torres has an ice-pack on his calf. His body language, down in the dugout, is not good.

Xavi exchanges a 1-2 with Fabregas but Xavi can't quite reach the return pass and the opportunity is gone.

Not sure how serious that injury to Alonso is. No doubt we'll find out when the second half restarts. They do have the luxury of having Fabregas on the bench though.

Spain seem to have their mojo back. Ramos is pushing right forward and Chile seem to be on the backfoot for the first time in the game.

Chile are down to 10 men and they really have their work cut out here. They don't deserve to be losing and don't deserve to be down to 10 men.

Estrada (Chile) is sent off for what looks like no more than a trip on Torres in the build up to the goal. It looked innocuous to say the least, but Estrada is shown a second yellow and then a red.

GOAL! 2-0 Spain Spain break with Iniesta, who finds Villa, who finds Iniesta again who sidefoots brilliantly past Bravo.

Vidal gets away with murder in the box. Well, not murder, but a significant shove on Torres in the box.

Chile chance! Chile counter attack with pace and purpose. Beausejour sprints down the left and, with no one around him, shoots - forcing a smart save from Casillas. Good chance.

Spain force a corner on the left and Xavi swings it in. Pique hammers his header over the bar.

Torres is definitely not fit.

Iniesta attracts the attention of three Chile midfielders but releases Villa before they can put in a tackle. Villa finds Torres on the right but his first touch let's him down and Chile can clear.

Chile are still knocking the ball about confidently despite the goal. Infact, they are still the better team.

GOAL! 1-0 Spain! Bizarre, but fantastic goal. The Chile goalkeeper Bravo comes way out of his box to clear Xabi Alonso's long ball to Torres but his clearance goes straight to the feet of David Villa who finishes first time into the empty net with his left foot from some 30 yards out.

Pique, crucially, heads away.

Beausejour is body-checked by Sergio Ramos on Chile's left and they have a chance to get the ball into the box here...

Chile's Estrada gets away with a very late tackle on Busquets. I have no idea how he hasn't been booked for that. Very, very late.

The corner was driven in but, eventually, cleared by Spain.

Sanchez attempts a chip from the right corner of the penalty box. It was crafted out of nothing and Chile have a corner.

Great move by Chile! Beausejour gets the ball on the right after a lovely stepover gave him some space. His low pull pack was slightly behind Gonzalez, who couldn't keep his shot down. Great move by Chile though.

Torres is causing problems at the back for Chile again. This time, Sanchez sees the ball out. But Torres is looking lively, if not fully fit.

Pique, who seems to think of himself as a striker these days, finds himself with the ball on the edge of the Chile box, but his shot is blocked.

And Torres was through again! Capdevila's very long pass from left back deceived the Chile defence and Torres was lurking, before the ball ran away from him.

But Torres gets an early sight on goal. Xavi's lofted ball into the box was flicked goalbound by Torres but he was stretching.

Hope that wasn't too confusing! The national anthems are playing out in Pretoria. We are 3 or so minutes from kick off...

And just to make everything clear before kick off, here are the Group H permutations: If Spain beat Chile, they will go through. If the Spaniards lose, they will go out if Switzerland draw with Honduras, or if the South Americans win heavily. Spain are also out if they draw and Switzerland beat Honduras. Chile need to avoid defeat to go through. If Chile lose to Spain by a single goal, Switzerland will only qualify if they beat Honduras by at least two goals.

A first win for Chile against Spain would probably send the European champions home.

A point would be enough to qualify Chile, who have been enthralling but wasteful in beating Honduras and Switzerland. Only once since 1950 has a team won two matches and failed to progress; that was in 1982 when Algeria were the victims of a contrived result between West Germany and Austria.

Spain forward David Villa has avoided a retrospective ban for slapping Honduran Emilio Izaguirre. He will again be partnered by Fernando Torres, while midfielder Andres Iniesta has recovered from the minor leg injury that prompted him to sit out the win over Honduras.

Chile have two key players suspended - playmaker Matias Fernandez and combative midfielder Carlos Carmona. Jorge Valdivia is an obvious replacement for Fernandez, while Rodrigo Millar is fit again after recovering recovering from a calf strain.
