Olic pulls it back to Modric whose first touch is a shot, but straight at Kawaguchi.

Nakamura sends Tamada in behind the defence, but his cross-shot evades Takahara and finds Simunic, defending doggedly at the back post.

Croatia come back with Prso, and it's something of a surprise that there have been no goals so far.

What a miss. Yanagisawa, faced with an open goal, somehow toe-pokes wide after a fine link-up between Kaji and Nakata on the right.

Srna's corner bounces off Miyamoto to safety.

It's end to end. Prso breaks and then Klasnic wins a corner from Inamoto.

Japan come forward with Nakamura and then Alex but the move ends with a poor cross from Ogasawara.

Inamoto ends the attack with a fine tackle on Kranjcar.

Nakata latches on to Nakamura's pass, strikes his shot really well and a diving Pletikosa saves well.

Kawaguchi almost has a very embarrassing moment as a backpass bobbles over his foot... and just past the post.

At the other end, Klasnic has a go from an acute angle. It goes across the face of goal and wide.

Ogasawara has a crack from about 30 yards. It's a powerful effort and Pletikosa holds at the second attempt.

Takahara's deflected effort is simple for Pletikosa.

Kovac's cross is read by Alex who leads a counter-attack. He comes forward at pace, finds Ogasawara, but his cross is poor.

Prso goes down theatrically on the edge of the Japanese box - but there is no free kick.

Nakata's pass goes straight to Pletikosa. Yanagisawa was on the wrong wavelength.

Nakamura's pass finds Ogasawara, but he can't get a shot away.

Nakata crosses from the right and Tudor heads away.

Now Nakamura finds Yanagisawa but he is offside.

Kaji comes forward to cross, but Pletikosa claims.

Now they come clear and Nakamura aims for Yanagisawa with a long ball. He only finds Simunic.

A foul by Yanagisawa on Babic means Japan still can't get out of their own half.

Srna's long throw is headed out by Miyamoto at the near post. The Croats seem to be looking to the high ball for joy.

Now a free kick for Croatia, which Babic can cross. Alex heads away.
