Europa league: Galatasaray eliminated, Aberdeen advance

Turkish giants Galatasaray were eliminated 3-1 on aggregate in the Europa League's second qualifying round after a 1-1 home draw against tiny Swedish side Ostersunds FK on Thursday.

Holding a 2-0 lead from the first leg, Ostersunds took an unassailable advantage on the hour mark, when Brwa Nouri converted a penalty after Saman Ghoddos had been taken down in the box by Galatasaray keeper Aly Keita.

Ahmet Calik pulled a goal back for the hosts nine minutes later, redirecting a volley attempt from close range, but they could muster no more as the Swedes easily advanced.

Meanwhile, Greg Stewart and Gary Mackay-Steven scored their first goals for Aberdeen as the Scottish side beat Siroki Brijeg 2-0 to reach the third qualifying round.

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Pittodrie, Derek McInnes' troops were on the verge of an early exit before Stewart's strike 18 minutes from time in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Stewart, on a season-long loan from Birmingham, fired into the far corner on his first start for the club to ease the nerves of the travelling Dons faithful.

Scotland winger Mackay-Steven, a summer arrival from Celtic, rounded off the victory six minutes later with a left-footed shot after fine work from Ryan Christie.

McInnes' side will now face Apollon Limassol of Cyprus in the next round.

Elsewhere, a goal from AEK Larnaca's Florian Taulemesse just after the half-hour mark condemned Cork City to defeat in the second qualifying round.

French forward Taulemesse secured a 1-0 win for hosts AEK, of the Cypriot First Division, and a 2-0 victory on aggregate.

Shamrock Rovers were also eliminated at the second qualifying-round stage by Czech side Mlada Boleslav.

League of Ireland Premier Division outfit Shamrock lost 3-2 at home in the first leg and failed to overturn that deficit at the Mestsky Stadium.

First-half goals from Jan Chramosta and Golgol Mebrahtu sealed a 2-0 victory for the hosts on the night and a 5-2 triumph on aggregate.
