Leicester sports scientist sent to stands at Atletico is charged by UEFA

UEFA have charged Leicester City sports scientist Tom Joel with improper conduct after he was ordered from the touchline in Wednesday night's Champions League quarterfinal clash.

Joel was sent to the stands in the 82nd minute after attempting to hand a drink to winger Marc Albrighton from in front of the home team's technical area.

The Atletico staff took exception to this, and referee Jonas Eriksson decided to send off Joel.

He has been charged with an offence in relation to Article 11 (2.f) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations which covers anyone "who does not comply with instructions given by match officials."

Atletico, who won the first-leg tie 1-0, have also been charged over the blocking of stairways at the Vicente Calderon.

No date has yet been set to hear the cases.
