Gladbach don't fear anyone, even Pep Guardiola and Man City - Schubert

Borussia Monchengladbach do not fear playing Manchester City in the Champions League playoffs, coach Andre Schubert has said.

Despite a miserable start to the 2015-16 campaign with five consecutive defeats and coach Lucien Favre leaving the club, Gladbach finished fourth in the Bundesliga and reached the Champions League playoffs.

New coach Schubert picked up 55 points in the remaining 29 matches, and beat Schalke to the playoff place, while the Foals were also the only club to avoid defeat against German champions Bayern Munich.

In August, Gladbach are likely to be an unseeded team in the Champions League playoffs. The Foals will only reach the upper half of the list if two of Shakhtar Donetsk, Ajax Amsterdam and RSC Anderlecht do not qualify from the third qualifying round for non-champions.

This could see Gladbach play Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the two-legged playoffs in August.

"This season, we've shown that we don't fear any opponent, and this includes Manchester City," Schubert told Bild. "Respect? Yes! But we played at eye-level in a group with Juve, who nearly eliminated Bayern, the semifinalists Manchester City and Europa League champions Sevilla.

"We should not have lost any of those duels. This gives confidence for our challenges in Europe."
