Millwall request larger ticket allocation for Tottenham FA Cup quarterfinal

Millwall have requested more tickets for the FA Cup quarterfinal at Tottenham next month after the Premier League club made an initial offer of 2,800.

The League One club want the same amount as Aston Villa and Wycombe Wanderers, who both received an away allocation of just over 4,000 for the third- and fourth-round matches at White Hart Lane.

FA Cup rules say away clubs can receive up to 15 percent of the home capacity, which stands at around 4,750 at White Hart Lane, where the capacity has been reduced to 31,500 this season while building work continues on the club's new 61,000-seater ground.

Spurs settled on a reduced figure of 2,800 for Millwall after meetings with their local Safety Advisory Group -- made up of the police, ambulance services, fire bridgade, council, the club itself and the Football Association (FA).

"They've given us their initial thoughts based on what their Safety Advisory Group believe the allocation should be," Millwall chief executive Steve Kavanagh told the News at Den website.

"We have challenged that and requested more. I want to get as many Millwall fans in there as possible, it's a huge game for the club. It's only right that our fans are given a fair chance to get a ticket.

"But the level they have offered us so far has reduced it [from 15 percent] substantially. I don't think it should be that level. I have queried that and we're in discussions. I'm hopeful that we'll be able to get a slightly higher allocation than we've been given so far.

"The initial number is just over 2,800. But we're aware that Wycombe received 4,000 and Aston Villa were offered 4,000. We think we should get the same allocation as those clubs.

"To me, it wouldn't be safe to not offer that number. It's easier to control and manage fans within the confine of the grounds rather than having Millwall fans trying to buy tickets in the Tottenham end. We want Millwall fans in an area together where they can enjoy the game in a safe environment."

The match will be played at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12(,) and will be broadcast live on BBC One.

Spurs and Millwall last met in a friendly in 2001, which was marred by violent clashes between supporters before and after the game.

Tottenham are monitoring developments after Leicester City complained to the FA about the "abuse, provocation and intimidation" suffered by their fans in the fifth-round defeat at Millwall on Saturday, when home fans ran on to the pitch to celebrate the League One club's victory.
