Tottenham's Nabil Bentaleb to miss six weeks after knee surgery

Tottenham's Nabil Bentaleb is unlikely to play again this season after being ruled out for six weeks following knee surgery.

The midfielder was replaced after 25 minutes of Tottenham's under-21 win over Leicester City on Friday and he underwent a scan on Monday which revealed knee ligament damage.

He has withdrawn from the Algeria squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifying double-header against Ethiopia.

The injury caps off a woeful campaign for Bentaleb, who has not featured for the first team since a six-minute cameo in the Europa League win over Fiorentina last month.

The 21-year-old was a regular last season but he has made just five league appearances this term and his last Premier League start came in the goalless draw with Everton in August.

After that game, Bentaleb was ruled out until December with an ankle injury and he has struggled to force his way past Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli, Ryan Mason and Tom Carroll since returning to full fitness.
