Toronto wins Canadian Championship thanks to Sebastian Giovinco late show

Toronto FC won its second straight Canadian Championship on Tuesday as Sebastian Giovinco scored deep into stoppage time to secure a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact.

Giovinvo won the ball back in the Montreal half, dribbled past one defender and passed the ball off just before being hauled to the pitch.

But he got up in time to run into the box and get on the end of Raheem Edwards cross to net the winner, setting off a huge celebration at BMO Field.

With the tie level after last week's first leg in Montreal, the Impact took the lead in the 35th minute as Blerim Dzemaili found Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla for the opening goal.

Giovinco equalized in the 53rd minute after running onto Michael Bradley's long pass and cutting in from the right.

The Impact's Patrice Bernier was sent off for a tackle on Marky Delgado in the 89th minute, and the game appeared to be heading for extra time before Giovinco's 95th-minute winner.

The win gave Toronto Canada's lone spot in the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League, avoiding a playoff because the club also won last year's domestic cup.
