Sutton United sign goalkeeper Will Puddy after Wayne Shaw exit

Sutton United have signed Will Puddy on loan after they were left without a goalkeeper following the resignation of deputy Wayne Shaw last week.

Starting keeper Ross Worner went off injured during their National League game at Torquay on Saturday, after the 45-year-old Shaw, who would have taken his place, resigned earlier in the week in the wake of the Football Association and Gambling Commission's investigations into a potential breach of betting rules.

Shaw, the "roly-poly goalie" who gained notoriety for his age and weight during Sutton's FA Cup run, ate a pie on the bench during the tie against Arsenal, when a bookmaker had offered 8-1 odds on it.

And after being forced to field an outfield player in goal to replace Worner, Sutton have now signed Puddy, 29, from Bristol Rovers on a one-month loan deal.

Puddy has made 28 appearances for Rovers since joining the club in 2014.

Sutton also announced they had signed former Crystal Palace winger Kieron Cadogan, who last played in Sweden, on a permanent deal.
