Sporting Kansas City's Benny Feilhaber escapes suspension for dive

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Benny Feilhaber has escaped a suspension for simulation in the club's 1-1 draw against the Montreal Impact last week, but not a fine, MLS has announced.

In the 83rd minute and with the score tied 1-1, the 32-year-old playmaker went down easily in the box after a challenge from Andres Romero. And while no foul or card was given for the act, the MLS disciplinary committee has seen fit to fine the U.S. international an undisclosed amount.

Romero on Friday was also fined by the league for a separate action later in the match in which he was adjudged to have instigated or escalated an incident in the 86th minute.

Feilhaber's fine comes two weeks after D.C. United's Jose Guillermo Ortiz was handed a one-game ban for simulation after the forward won a decisive penalty against Vancouver on May 30.

Around the hour mark, Ortiz went down under the slightest contact to earn a penalty, and Lamar Neagle scored the resulting spot kick to give D.C. a 1-0 victory.

MLS saw fit to issue the punishment upon reviewing the play after the match.
