La Liga chief Javier Tebas: You all know who I want to win Clasico

La Liga president Javier Tebas says everyone already knows which team he wants to win this weekend's Camp Nou Clasico.

Zinedine Zidane's Madrid side travel to Barcelona on Saturday knowing a win would move them nine points clear of Luis Enrique's men at the top of the table.

Tebas, who has made no secret of his support for Los Blancos, is looking forward to the game and hopes it will prove beneficial to the league in general, but he gave a slightly more withdrawn response than usual when asked who he was backing.

"I want the Clasico to be a big party for all of La Liga to benefit from," he said at a Microsoft event. "But I won't say who I want to win [because] you already know who.

"The winner will be important in the La Liga title race. I've said on other occasions who I want [to win], but today is not the day for doing so."

Tebas had said before a meeting between Barca and Madrid last year: "If I say I don't support Madrid, then that would be hypocritical and I would be painted as a liar -- and I certainly don't like to be called a liar.

"Imagine if I said that I loved all teams and then it came out that I have supported Madrid since I was a boy, went to 27 Clasicos in the past and celebrated Madrid wins with friends in a bar."

The league chief's honesty has drawn criticism in Catalonia, while his relationship with Barca has further deteriorated in recent months for other reasons.

Comments he made about Barcelona's players provoking the anger among Valencia supporters which led to a bottle being thrown at Mestalla did not go down well and led to the Catalan club publicly withdrawing its trust in him.
