Celta Vigo stun Real Madrid in Copa del Rey quarterfinal first leg

Real Madrid fell 2-1 to Celta Vigo in their Copa del Rey first-leg quarterfinal tie at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Cristiano Ronaldo was given a rare Copa chance in the squad against Celta, however the four-time Ballon d'Or winner failed to make an impact on a day that saw Los Blancos lose for the second straight match after having gone 40 games unbeaten.

And it was the visitors who took the lead on 65 minutes through Iago Aspas, who latched onto a weak Marcelo clearance and fired his left-footed shot past a helpless Kiko Casilla in the Real net.

The Brazilian made good and pulled Real level just five minutes later with a stunning strike from distance, but Celta struck back just 58 seconds later to retake the lead -- defender Jonny getting behind the sleeping defence and slotting past Casilla to secure the result.

The second leg will be played on Jan. 25 at the Balaidos.

In the other match, second-half substitute Ibai Gomez scored two goals after 90 minutes to give Alaves a 2-0 advantage over 10-man AD Alcorcon at the Municipal de Santo Domingo.

Carlos Bellvis was shown a straight red card seconds after Gomez's 90th-minute opener, setting the stage for Gomez to fire his free kick past Dani Jimenez just three minutes later.
