Spain coach Vicente del Bosque would be 'happy' with semifinals at Euro 2016

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque says he would be satisfied if his side reach the semifinals in this summer's Euro 2016 finals in France.

La Roja go to the tournament having won both the most recent European championships in 2008 and 2012, as well as the 2010 World Cup, but having crashed out disastrously in the group stages in their most recent showing at the 2014 World Cup.

This memory means the holders are rated below France and Germany in the betting ahead of the tournament, despite the success of La Liga teams in European club competition, and despite the fact that Del Bosque can still rely on top stars such as Andres Iniesta, David Silva, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos and Sergio Busquets.

The veteran coach told the El Partido de las 12 radio show that he had put reaching the last four as his acceptable target, although winning the tournament was still the ultimate aim.

"If we reach the semifinals I would be happy, that is the truth, although some would see it it as a failure," Del Bosque said. "What I do not want is for nerves and worries to start, like against the Netherlands [at the last World Cup]. Such disquiet does not help. Unrest does not help. To win the European Championships is something great. We will see if we are up to it."

Asked who he saw in the final, Del Bosque name-checked many of the likely competitors this summer -- including Roy Hodgson's England.

"I do not know who are the biggest favourites," he said. "I see France up there, England are strong, Germany, Portugal, Belgium... even Iceland or Slovakia. This year there is one more knockout round."
