Davide Astori joins Roma on loan

Just days after he signed a three-year contract extension with Cagliari, Davide Astori has joined Roma on a year-long loan deal.

The defender performed an incredible U-turn after claiming last week that he "wanted to show my gratitude to Cagliari" and Roma have an option to make the deal permanent once the loan term expires.

"The club announces it has sold Davide Astori to AS Roma on a one-year loan with the right to redemption," a statement on Cagliari's website read. "Cagliari thanks Astori for the professionalism, devotion and gratitude he has show until his last moment in red and blue."

The Lombardy-born player spent five years in AC Milan's youth system before joining Cagliari, for whom he made 140 Serie A appearances and scored three goals.

Astori follows the arrivals of Ashley Cole, Seydou Keita, Urby Emanuelson and Juan Iturbe at the Stadio Olimpico this summer.
