M'Baye Niang has told AC Milan that he would like to decide where he plays this season after handing in a doctor's note for the next 10 days.
Niang, 22, is pushing for a move to Torino, who are coached by his former Milan mentor Sinisa Mihajlovic, but their offer does not match the highest one the Rossoneri have received, which came from Spartak Moscow.
As uncertainty surrounds his future, Niang has handed in a sick note until the end of the transfer window, saying that he is suffering from stress.
"I would like to say that football has always been the love of my life and it is my job," he told milannews.it. "I've always trained with a smile and I've played for Milan for five years now, and my teammates can vouch for that.
"My stress is not down to a technical situation, but because of what is happening off the field and how things are going. I would just like to choose where I go and play and not have other people decide for me. I've got nothing against Milan and the club."
Milan coach Vincenzo Montella earlier said that playing for the club "should be a reason to be joyful, not stressed," adding that he "expected more" from the forward.
"I'm really disappointed," he added in a news conference ahead of his side's Europa League playoff second leg at Shkendija. "Let's see how things end up and I wish him a speedy recovery. I'm happy to have players here who are happy and not stressed."
Patrick Cutrone, meanwhile, has told Milan TV that he is delighted with the way his early-season form has gone.
"I honestly never expected to get to this point," said the 19-year-old, who scored on his first start in a Serie A game at the weekend having impressed in preseason. "I never expected to score -- I never even expected to start and I'd like to thank everybody and the coach, who is putting faith in me.
"At the end of the Crotone game, even I couldn't believe it. I was delighted. It's not only my merit, but everybody's because we played a great game. I'm happy here -- we have a great team. I'm delighted to be able to play with them and it's certainly going to be great to train together with them.
"Each training session is important because I'm learning, particularly from [Nikola] Kalinic, who is very experienced and has been in Serie A for many years."
Cutrone also says he is learning a lot from Montella.
"It helps a great deal to have a coach who used to be a striker," he said. "His advice definitely helps. The coach knows how things are out on the field and I try to listen to him."
