Barca's Neymar never booked travel agency event, but will visit China

Barcelona star Neymar never had a promotional event organised with Chinese travel agency Ctrip, but is still set to travel to China after Saturday's Clasico in Miami, according to a statement from those close to player.

Ctrip claimed earlier on Friday that Neymar had cancelled a "meet and greet" promotion in Shanghai because he is "busy with transfer issues."

However, Neymar's camp issued a statement saying he was never due to be involved in an event with Ctrip and that he will still travel to Asia to fulfil both club and personal sponsorship commitments.

The statement read: "We inform that Neymar Jr.'s appointments in China at July 31st are still confirmed. He will be joining some FC Barcelona's sponsoring actions and will be also at Replay's event, which was already schedule.

"We also communicate that the Chinese agency is selling tickets to fans, without the knowledge and approval of those who represent Neymar Jr., who would never do something like this. After this notification, the agency cancelled the meeting.

"We confirm, again, that there was never an agreement about a meeting with the fans, much less an authorization to sell tickets.

"Neymar Jr. never would participate in an event that sells tickets to fans."

The reports came amid growing speculation that the Brazil international is set to join Paris Saint-Germain, with a source telling ESPN FC last weekend that Neymar and his father have agreed to a contract with the French club and it is up to them to find a way to complete the move without falling foul of financial fair play rules.

Both Barca and Neymar's inner circle confirmed to ESPN FC on Thursday Neymar's plans to travel to China and said nothing had changed when asked again on Friday.

Ctrip had said on its Weibo account: "It is with great pity that we announce the cancellation of the 'meet and greet' event with Neymar, which was predicted to happen next July 31.

"Mr Neymar and his staff are currently busy with transfer issues and failed to secure their presence on Monday in Shanghai, which is why we decided to cancel the event. We will refund the entire amount of money spent and offer our customers adequate compensation."

Neymar, meanwhile, was filmed clashing with a Barcelona teammate Nelson Semedo in training on Friday as speculation increases that he is set to make the switch to PSG.
