West Brom agree deal to sign Egypt defender Ahmed Hegazi - sources

West Brom have agreed a deal in principle to sign Egypt international Ahmed Hegazi, sources have told ESPN FC.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis has been looking to bring in a new central defender all summer and was interested in loaning Chelsea's Kurt Zouma, but backed off after learning of the cost of his loan fee and wages and has now switched his attention to 26-year-old Hegazi.

Sources in Egypy have told ESPN FC that Hegazi travelled to England on Saturday for talks and a medical at the Hawthorns ahead of a loan move.

Hegazi had a spell in Italy with Fiorentina between 2012 and 2015 and is keen to try his luck in Europe again.

The 6-feet-5 defender impressed at the African Nations Cup earlier this year and was named in the team of the tournament.

He will become West Brom's second signing of the summer following the arrival of Jay Rodriguez from Southampton.
