Chelsea to offer Kurt Zouma new contract ahead of loan move - sources

Chelsea are to hand Kurt Zouma a new deal before sending him out on loan, sources close to the club have told ESPN FC.

A number of sides in the Premier League and abroad have made enquiries about taking Zouma on loan next season, with Chelsea open to the idea of sending him out temporarily to help him rediscover his form and fitness after a serious knee injury.

Stoke and West Brom are both set to hold talks with the 22-year-old over a possible loan move, while La Liga outfit Valencia are also keen on the centre-back.

Chelsea see Zouma as being a part of their future plans and want to tie down the player to a new contract before loaning him out as he has just two years left on his current deal after joining from St Etienne in 2014.

The recent signing of Antonio Rudiger from Roma and the return of Andreas Christensen from a two-year loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach has increased competition for places at Chelsea and Zouma's best option may be to go out on loan in search of regular first-team football.

Zouma was ruled out of action for 11 months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Manchester United in February 2016.

He battled back to fitness in January to help Chelsea for the second half of last season, but found himself down the pecking order in Antonio Conte's plans.

Zouma made 13 appearances last season after his return from injury, but only three of those were starts in the Premier League.
