Hertha Berlin are set to make a decision on U.S. under-20 goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann after his 10-day trial spell, which begins on Monday.
Klinsmann, the 20-year-old son of former U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, will join the Europa League side for their preseason training camp from July 7 until July 14.
"We will sit down following the training camp and decide if we sign Jonathan Klinsmann," Hertha sporting executive Michael Preetz told kicker on Thursday.
Klinsmann, whose grandfather is from Eberswalde, north of Berlin, is available on a free transfer.
If Hertha opt to sign him he would become their third goalkeeper behind the experienced Rune Jarstein and Thomas Kraft, and could play for the under-23 team.
Jurgen Klinsmann, meanwhile, has praised Germany's performance at the Confederations Cup.
The former captain wrote in kicker that Joachim Low's experimental squad "impressed me very much" and said "no other country currently has a similar potential in age group between 21 and 26 years."
He wrote: "You can add experienced players like [Mats] Hummels, [Jerome] Boateng, [Thomas] Muller, [Manuel] Neuer, [Ilkay] Gundogan, [Mario] Gotze, [Benedikit] Howedes, [Toni] Kroos, [Sami] Khedira, [Julian] Weigl, [Marco] Reus and [Leroy] Sane to it. Joachim Low has more than 50 players to select his World Cup squad from."
