Man United's Anthony Martial says 'rumours are false' amid exit talk

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial appears to have dismissed speculation that he wants to leave the club this summer.

Martial has been linked with a move after it was reported that he had asked Jose Mourinho if he could leave and the United manager had agreed not to stand in his way.

However, on Wednesday the 21-year-old took to Twitter and said: "The rumours are false."

Martial had a difficult second season at United after a vibrant debut campaign under Louis van Gaal.

After being a regular in the Van Gaal's team following his £36 million move from Monaco, he struggled to hold down a place under Mourinho.

He nevertheless scored eight goals in 42 appearances but was only a late substitute in the Europa League triumph over Ajax in May.

Mourinho has been critical of Martial, telling him in January he had failed to make the most of his opportunities. In April, he said Martial must do "more things I like."

The United manager was also upset about stories linking Martial with a move to Sevilla in January, telling the youngster to "listen to me" rather than agent Philippe Lamboley.

Martial has two years left on the four-year contract he signed when he arrived at Old Trafford in 2015, with the option of another year.
