Francesco Totti a target for Japanese second division side Tokyo Verdy

Roma legend Francesco Totti is wanted by Japanese club Tokyo Verdy, a spokesman for the club has confirmed.

The J-League second division side have made an offer to the 40-year-old World Cup winner, who brought an end to his 25-year career with Roma at the end of the season.

Totti has also been linked with North American Soccer League side Miami FC, coached by his friend Alessandro Nesta.

"There has been interest from Totti's side," Tokyo Verdy spokesman Yuya Kurabayashi was quoted as saying by AFP.

"The club is looking at ways to raise the money needed to sign the player."

Reports in Italy quoted Verdy president Hideaki Hanyu as saying Totti had asked for a deal worth €3 million, but the club did not disclose details of the offer they had made.

"We are not as rich as [Vissel] Kobe or [Urawa] Reds, so we can't just go after any player on the market," Kurabayashi said.

"It will be difficult, but we are exploring options to get the deal done."

However, despite clubs having been linked with Totti the 40-year-old could yet opt to retire and has been offered a director's role by Roma.
