Santiago Garcia joins Toluca on free transfer from Werder Bremen

Left-back Santiago Garcia has joined Liga MX club Toluca on a free transfer from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

The 28-year-old leaves the Weserstadion after 99 competitive appearances in four years after joining from Palermo in 2013.

But club and player failed to reach an agreement to continue their relationship beyond the 2016-17 season in May, when sporting director Frank Baumann said contract talks broke down.

"I am bit disappointed with the offer," Garcia said at the time, after Bremen only wanted to sign him for one additional season.

On Saturday, Toluca announced on Twitter that they have signed the left-back, while Werder Bremen thanked Garcia for "four emotional years" and wished him "all the best for your new challenge."

The Argentine scored five goals and set up a further 10 in his time at Bremen.

The Bundesliga side have already signed Sweden left-back Ludwig Augustinsson, who joined Bremen on a four-year deal from Copenhagen earlier this summer.
