Liverpool nearing deal for Roma's Mohamed Salah - source

Roma forward Mohamed Salah will undergo a medical at Liverpool on Thursday as he closes in on a €39 million move, a source has told ESPN FC.

Salah could become the most expensive signing in the Liverpool's history, depending on the strength or weakness of the British Pound against the Euro upon sealing a deal.

There is a chance the deal will surpass the £35m Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Andy Carroll back in January 2011.

Liverpool's pursuit of a winger goes back to last summer, with manager Jurgen Klopp interested in Christian Pulisic and Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt -- both Bundesliga players who appear unlikely to move this summer transfer window.

The left-footed wide man should become the Merseyside outfit's second signing of the summer following youngster Dominic Solanke, who will move to the club on July 1 upon the expiry of his Chelsea contract.

Salah was close to joining Liverpool from Basel in January 2014, but instead opted to head for Chelsea.

However, he had an unsuccessful stay at Stamford Bridge, making just 19 appearances across two seasons.

Salah moved to Fiorentina on loan in February 2015 before signing permanently for Roma last summer after a loan spell at the club.

Last season, the 25-year-old was hugely influential in helping Roma finish as runners-up to Juventus in Serie A, scoring 15 goals in 31 league appearances.
