Wolfsburg sign Brazilian right-back William to replace Ricardo Rodriguez

Wolfsburg have confirmed the signing of Internacional right-back William on a five-year-deal.

William, 22, joins the Bundesliga side as they try to strengthen their backline after losing AC Milan-bound left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

Wolfsburg are transferring €5m to Porto Alegre for the Brazilian, who was part of the team that won an Olympic gold medal in 2016.

"We have been intensively scouting William for quite some time," Wolfsburg sporting director Olaf Rebbe told the club's official website.

"He is a young player with a great deal of potential for development - for which reason we are very happy to have been able to bind him to VfL for the long-term."

The Brazilian has played as right-back and right midfielder for his former club, picking up four assists in 60 games in all competitions in three years at the professional level.

"I'm looking forward to Wolfsburg,"William told the club's official website. "VfL are a very well-known club in Brazil. Many great players, such as Grafite, Josue, Diego or Naldo were successful there.

"My top priority now is to get to know everything as quickly as possible and get integrated into the team."

Wolfsburg had already strengthened their defence with the signing of 24-year-old U.S. international John Brooks, who joined from Bundesliga rivals Hertha Berlin.
