Liverpool need 'a new centre-back, central midfielder and striker' - Riise

SINGAPORE -- John Arne Riise says Liverpool need to make some major summer signings to be ready to play in the Champions League, and the club might be better without Daniel Sturridge.

Jurgen Klopp's side confirmed a return to Europe on the final day of the Premier League season, and Riise thinks they need more strength in depth.

"We need a new centre-back, a new central midfielder and a new striker who can score 25 goals a season," Riise, speaking ahead of the Liverpool vs. Arsenal Masters event, said. "We have [Roberto] Firmino and [Philippe] Coutinho but we don't have a proper No. 9.

"Daniel Sturridge is a good player but he probably does not fit Klopp's style, so it may be good for him to move on.

"Last season [Liverpool] were close to the top at Christmas but lost three to four games thereafter. It shows that we don't have a big enough squad."
