Atletico Madrid's 'doors are open' for Diego Costa return - assistant coach

Chelsea striker Diego Costa would be welcomed back at Atletico Madrid with open arms, according to the Spanish side's assistant coach Juan Vizcaino.

Costa, 28, has been linked with a big-money move to Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian since January following a training-ground row with Chelsea coach Antonio Conte.

However, the Spain international, who has two years left on his contract with Chelsea, said last weekend that he has no plans to leave this summer and would only depart if his destination was former club Atletico.

Former Atletico player and current assistant coach Vizcaino told Cadena Ser: "The doors are open here for Diego Costa."

Costa scored 43 goals in 94 league appearances for Atletico before Chelsea triggered his £32 million buyout clause in 2014.

The Brazil-born Costa said in August that he came close to returning to Atletico last summer but the La Liga club were unable to strike a deal with Chelsea.

Costa, meanwhile, has told reporters that he hopes Everton striker Romelu Lukaku gets a chance to return to Chelsea.

Chelsea have reportedly put Lukaku at the top of their list of desired attacking reinforcements and Costa says he would not begrudge the Belgium international -- who scored 25 Premier League goals this season -- a second chance to prove himself at Stamford Bridge following his departure in 2014.

"Lukaku is a great player," Costa said. "I hope he will have the opportunity to sign at Chelsea because Chelsea is a unique club."

Asked if he believed that he and Lukaku could play together for Chelsea next season, Costa said: "I don't know -- that's a decision for the club."

Costa also talked up the talents of Chelsea teammate Michy Batshuayi and says he has a big future at Stamford Bridge despite struggling for first-team football this season.

"Batshuayi is a big player and has an impressive future for himself," Costa said. "He has proven in the last games that he has quality and scoring ability. He is a boy who will take more big steps. Hopefully he will continue to grow and keep his head up. He has all the qualities to stay here at Chelsea."

Chelsea are set for an active summer in the transfer market as Antonio Conte seeks to prepare his squad for a return to the Champions League next season, but the manager was in no mood to discuss his plans following his team's 2-1 FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

"I think it's very important to take two or three days to rest, and also to be a bit relaxed after this season," he said. "For me this season was very tough in many aspects. For this reason I think now the best way is to take two or three days with my family, to stay with them and then to try to prepare a new season."
