Monaco's Benjamin Mendy plays down talk of imminent Man City move

Benjamin Mendy has played down reports he is set for an imminent move to Manchester City amid speculation he has already flown to England to discuss the transfer.

Mendy's former Monaco teammate, Bernardo Silva, completed a move to City last week, and sources told ESPN FC last week that the left-back could be their next target. SFR Sport has since said the France international is edging towards a switch to the Etihad Stadium.

Mendy, 22, reportedly touched down in England aboard a private jet, but he responded by posting a picture of himself on the Champs-Elysees in Paris, adding sarcastically: "Manchester has changed. Calm down lol."

According to Telefoot, City are also after Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe and have made a €130 million (£113.2m) offer for the teenager's services. The Daily Telegraph recently reported that Real Madrid had a world record £103m (€120m) bid for Mbappe rejected.

While his players' futures remain uncertain, Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim's own career path is also unclear.

Having just taken the Principality outfit to their first Ligue 1 title win since 2000, Jardim's stock is high and the 42-year-old has been linked with a move to Arsenal, should Arsene Wenger step down.

Jardim's contract with the French champions runs through to 2019 after he signed an extension in 2015, but he told L'Equipe he will first hold talks with Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev before deciding whether to remain at the Stade Louis II.

"That's a question you'll have to ask me a little later," Jardim said when asked whether it was his last L'Equipe interview as Monaco coach. "This week we're going to talk, I'm going to really look at the offers, what can happen, and then calmly take a decision. I have shown who I am in difficult times.

"The board and me know each other well. With Vadim, we're able to speak looking at each other in the eye, and say things to each other. We do that every year, this time is no different to the others."
