Matteo Darmian says he would be happy to stay with Manchester United after making history with the Premier League club.
Darmian, 27, was not first choice at the start of the season, but he became the first Italian since Enzo Maresca with Sevilla in 2007 to win the Europa League, playing 90 minutes in the 2-0 win over Ajax on Wednesday, and he now hopes to win even more trophies at Old Trafford.
"I've got another two years on my contract here and I am happy in Manchester," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Now, with a medal around my neck, is not the right time to talk about my future -- we can do that later. But I cannot deny that I have settled in here perfectly."
United had never before won the Europa League or UEFA Cup.
"It's so hard to go all the way in this competition, but when you do win it, it is so satisfying," he said. "It was the first time for United and we have made history."
It was not the first time for Jose Mourinho, who lifted the UEFA Cup with Porto, and Darmian says his contribution to the victory was great.
"We're certainly not only finding out today that he is a winning coach," Darmian said. "We just need to work with him to understand certain things. We've won three trophies this year and I think the numbers speak for themselves."
Wednesday's win was even more important, coming as it did just days after the city was hit by a terrorist attack.
"I know the venue and have been there to see concerts with my girlfriend, and what happened on Monday was terrible and the fact it happened in a familiar place just increased the anxiety," he said. "We played and won for the victims of this tragedy, and I am not just saying that."
