PSG's Jese Rodriguez 'would like to remain' at Las Palmas next season

Paris Saint-Germain forward Jese Rodriguez would like to remain at Las Palmas next season despite a disappointing loan spell with the La Liga side.

Jese, 24, returned to Spain in January just six months after leaving Real Madrid to sign for PSG and has scored three goals and set up one more in 15 league appearances.

He told Las Palmas-based newspaper Canaria en hora: "I don't know what is going to happen in the future. I am a PSG player. It's early days but I would like to remain here although it depends on PSG.

"Next season would be different. It's not the same to join a team in preseason than midway through a campaign.

"I'm certain I would do a better job."

Under contract with PSG until June 2021, Jese accepted a huge pay cut to join home club Las Palmas on a six-month loan in search of more playing time.

Jese had made made just nine Ligue 1 appearances for PSG, with only one of those a start.

However, he struggled to open his goalscoring account with Las Palmas and it was not until his sixth appearance for the Canary Islands-based club that he found the back of the net.

"I've been unlucky," the Las Palmas-born Jese said. "At the beginning, I didn't score goals with opportunities that I usually don't miss. When I arrived I had been two-and-a-half months without playing and you can feel that.

"Had I scored those goals early on, things would have gone a different way but now I'm ending the season well.

"I think I have given my best and it has been a new experience. I absolutely don't regret coming home. I take with me the good things, the fact that I played at home.

"It hasn't been what I expected and I came here with different aims but I don't regret it."

Las Palmas were hoping to compete for European places after a strong first half of the season. However, since Jese's arrival they have won three and lost 12 of their 17 league games.

"When I arrived here I had high expectations," Jese said. "But we can't forget that not that long ago this club gained promotion to La Liga and the important thing is that we have defended our status.

"We are on the right path and I believe this club can do great things."

Las Palmas, 4-1 losers at home to Barcelona on Sunday, are 14th in the standings. They end the campaign on Sunday at Deportivo La Coruna.
