Werder Bremen's Aron Johannsson could leave in summer - Baumann

Werder Bremen have indicated that United States forward Aron Johannsson will be allowed to leave the Weserstadion in the summer.

Johannsson, who joined Bremen in 2015, has endured two difficult years in the Bundesliga having missed a major part of his first season with a hip injury.

The former AZ Alkmaar striker made his only two starts of the season in the opening two games and has since been restricted to just seven substitute appearances.

In March, a source close to Johannsson told ESPN FC that the 26-year-old "is at that age where he needs to play regularly" and could look at "different options" in the summer.

And speaking to reporters on Thursday, Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann said: "He has not got the playing time he wishes for. Aron's goal is to play all the time.

"We'll need to reassess the situation in the summer and see whether it makes sense for him and for us that he stays."

Johannsson has won 19 caps for United States, the most recent of them coming in 2015.
