Nuri Sahin extends Borussia Dortmund contract until 2019

Nuri Sahin has signed a new contract at Borussia Dortmund which will keep him at the club until 2019.

Sahin, 28, is currently out with an ankle injury suffered in the victory against Borussia Monchengladbach at the weekend, but could return before the end of the season.

The midfielder began his career at Dortmund and, having left for Real Madrid in 2011, returned in 2013, initially on loan and then on a permanent basis.

"Everyone knows how happy I am at Dortmund -- in the city, in this stadium, with our incredible fans. BVB is the club of my heart," Sahin told Dortmund's official website.

Sahin made his debut for Dortmund in 2005 and has gone on to play for the club 203 times, scoring 19 goals and winning the Bundesliga in 2011.

"We're all delighted Nuri's staying with us. He grew up in the region, he's a really good guy and Borussia Dortmund is deeply ingrained in him," Hans-Joachim Watzke, BVB's CEO said.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc added: "Even though Nuri has had some bad luck with injuries in the past couple of years, he has still repeatedly shown that he can come back and fulfil a very important role in our young team."
