Torino's Andrea Belotti: I'm not worth my €100 million release clause

Torino forward Andrea Belotti has said he is not worth the €100 million he is valued at by his club, while adding he still has a long way to go before being considered as one of the best goal scorers in the game.

Belotti, 23, has scored 25 goals in Serie A this season and is currently joint-top of the scoring charts with Roma's Edin Dzeko.

The Italy international, who has been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United of late, recently put pen to paper on a new contract with Torino through to 2021 that contains a clause which means he can leave if a club from outside Italy offers €100m.

"To be honest, no [I don't feel I am worth it]," Belotti told Mediaset. "But given the way the transfer market has developed, increasingly ridiculous sums are being spent. The cost of players has gone up far too much."

The transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United for €105m last summer is currently the world-record transfer fee, while the sale of Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli to Juventus last July set a new Serie A record at €90m.

Belotti says he does not feel he belongs in a category with such players or any of the former Serie A greats yet.

"Hernan Crespo did far more than I have -- I've achieved nothing yet," Belotti said. "[Andriy] Shevchenko was also a champion both on and off the field and he was my idol. I was struck by how he was able to score goals in so many different ways."
